On Earth Day, they did the food miles for their particular lunch, and they found out that the asparagus that they served, that we served to them, had traveled 17,000 miles before they ate it. And so this was a real shocker for me, because asparagus is grown 50 miles from here, maybe 100 at the most.
But what they found out is that the asparagus they ate on Earth Day was grown in South America, flown to China for processing, and then flown back to the Bay Area for us to eventually get it and serve it. So, that just blew my mind.

President Obama on Thursday signed a proclamation expanding a protected marine reserve in the Pacific Ocean, putting a total of 370,000 square nautical miles off limits to commercial fishing. The designation makes the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument six times larger than it was and will protect the coral reefs and unique marine ecosystems threatened by fishing and the effects of climate change. Mr. Obama’s action creates the largest marine reserve in the world and builds on his efforts to deal with environmental issues through executive action in the face of stiff Republican opposition in Congress.

UBND thành phố cho biết, theo số liệu thống kê đến cuối năm 2013, thành phố có 58 điểm, tụ điểm, tuyến đường có phát sinh tệ nạn mại dâm. More than three-quarters of all teachers in kindergarten through high school are women, according to Education Department data, up from about two-thirds three decades ago.
