Tại cuộc hội thảo về Champa tại UC Davis ngày 24/5/2015 có một diễn giả chính đến từ Pháp là Tiến sĩ Po Dharma, một chuyên gia về lịch sử Champa.
Dân tộc Chăm hôm nay có hai vấn đề quan tâm nhất. Thứ nhất là người thanh niên Chăm sống tại hải ngọai này làm thế nào để họ có một vai trò trong di sản của họ, trong tiếng nói của họ. Hầu hết họ sang bên Mỹ hay bên Pháp đều không biết tiếng Việt, không biết tiếng Chăm, cho nên chúng tôi muốn làm cách nào đưa đến cho họ di sản văn hóa Champa, những tác phẩm về Champa bằng tiếng Anh. Người Chăm hôm nay có khỏang 100 ngàn người ở Việt nam, 400 ngàn người ở Cam Pu Chia, 5 hay 6 chục ngàn ở Mã Lai, vấn đề của họ là thế kỷ 21 này họ có còn sống được hay không. Kế đến là dân tộc Chăm hiện nay ở Việt nam với vấn đề dân tộc bản địa, có thể duy trì văn hóa của họ trong một chế độ mà chúng tôi gọi là độc tài đảng trị hay không.
Không phải họ muốn đòi lại độc lập quê hương, đó không phải là vấn đề của họ. Vấn đề duy nhất của họ là đòi hỏi chính phủ Việt nam công nhận họ là một phần của dân tộc Việt nam, lịch sử của họ là lịch sử Việt nam chứ không nằm bên lề lịch sử Việt nam.

Dân trí Ngày 6/5/2015, tại TP Nam Định, Trung ương Hội Khuyến học Việt Nam phối hợp với UBND tỉnh Nam Định đã tổ chức hội thảo xây dựng mô hình “Dòng họ học tập” góp phần xây dựng xã hội học tập từ cơ sở.
Tham gia hội thảo có đại diện của hơn 30 dòng họ; lãnh đạo Trung ương Hội Khuyến học Việt Nam; Chủ tịch, Phó Chủ tịch Thường trực của 15 Hội Khuyến học các tỉnh, thành phía Bắc; đại diện lãnh đạo Ban Dân vận Trung ương, Ban Tuyên giáo Trung ương; Hội Người cao tuổi Việt Nam; Bộ Giáo dục và Đào tạo; đại diện lãnh đạo các Ban, ngành của tỉnh Nam Định.

Triển lãm bộ sưu tập Truyện Kiều tại trung tâm thương mại Crescent Mall (Q.7, TP.HCM) diễn ra từ ngày 10-5 đến hết hôm nay, 21-5.
“Truyện Kiều là một bài thơ chữ Hán do Nguyễn Du (1766-1820) sáng tác, và được coi là kiệt tác của văn học Việt Nam. Tác phẩm có tựa gốc tiếng Việt là Đoạn Trường Tân Thanh, nhưng thường được biết đến dưới tên gọi Truyện Kiều.” (Trích lời giới thiệu tại triển lãm)

Edward T. Chambers, a lapsed seminarian who succeeded Saul Alinsky as leader of Mr. Alinsky’s social justice foundation, advancing his radical agenda of community organizing and grounding its progressive objectives in the Gospels, died on April 26 at a nursing home near his home in Drimoleague, Ireland. He was 85.
“You have to be pretty tough when you talk to someone with a problem that you know you can solve by picking up a telephone. But you don’t because that’s just putting a Band-Aid on the situation,” Mr. Chambers said. “He’ll have the same problem next week. It means nothing unless you gain the power to deal with the problem yourself.”

Marques Haynes, whose dazzling ball-handling skills, exhibited for more than 40 years as a member of the Harlem Globetrotters and other barnstorming black basketball teams, earned him a place in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and an international reputation as the world’s greatest dribbler, died on Friday in Plano, Tex. He was 89.
Haynes was a stellar cog on the Globetrotter squads of the late 1940s and early ’50s, when the team was as competitive as any team anywhere, including those in the professional leagues that in 1949 merged to form the National Basketball Association.

B. B. King, whose world-weary voice and wailing guitar lifted him from the cotton fields of Mississippi to a global stage and the apex of American blues, died on Thursday at his home in Las Vegas. He was 89.
“I wanted to connect my guitar to human emotions,” Mr. King said in his autobiography, “Blues All Around Me” (1996), written with David Ritz.
In performances, his singing and his solos flowed into each other as he wrung notes from the neck of his guitar, vibrating his hand as if it were wounded, his face a mask of suffering. Many of the songs he sang — like his biggest hit, “The Thrill Is Gone” (“I’ll still live on/But so lonely I’ll be”) — were poems of pain and perseverance.

John F. Nash Jr., a mathematician who shared a Nobel Prize in 1994 for work that greatly extended the reach and power of modern economic theory and whose long descent into severe mental illness and eventual recovery were the subject of a book and a film, both titled “A Beautiful Mind,” was killed, along with his wife, in a car crash on Saturday in New Jersey. He was 86.
Dr. Nash’s theory of noncooperative games, published in 1950 and known as Nash equilibrium, provided a conceptually simple but powerful mathematical tool for analyzing a wide range of competitive situations, from corporate rivalries to legislative decision-making. Dr. Nash’s approach is now pervasive in economics and throughout the social sciences and is applied routinely in other fields, including evolutionary biology.

MOSCOW — Maya Plisetskaya, one of the greatest ballerinas of the 20th century and virtually theembodiment of the Bolshoi Theater for decades, died on Saturday in Munich. She was 89.
Ms. Plisetskaya, renowned for her fluidity of movement, expressive acting and willful personality, danced on the Bolshoi stage well into her 60s. Vadim Gayevsky, a dance historian and critic, once said she “began by creating her own style and ended up creating her own theater.”

A social psychologist by training who left his native South Africa as a teenager, Mr. Suzman built a government career like few others.
As a longtime official at the National Institutes of Health, with an ambitious definition of his job, he influenced economics, public health and other fields over three decades.
Dr. Suzman used his position as director of the Behavioral and Social Research division at the National Institute of Aging, part of the N.I.H., not merely to evaluate grant proposals but also to act as a scientific hub.

William Zinsser, a writer, editor and teacher whose book “On Writing Well” sold more than 1.5 million copies by employing his own literary craftsmanship to urge clarity, simplicity, brevity and humanity, died on Tuesday at his home in Manhattan. He was 92.
“On Writing Well,” first published by Harper & Row in 1976, has gone through repeated editions, at least four of which were substantially revised to include subjects like new technologies (the word processor) and new demographic trends (more writers from other cultural traditions).
It became a book that editors and teachers encouraged writers to reread annually in the manner of another classic on the craft of writing, “The Elements of Style,” by William Strunk Jr. and E. B. White.
“Ultimately, the product any writer has to sell is not the subject being written about, but who he or she is,” Mr. Zinsser wrote in “On Writing Well.” He added: “I often find myself reading with interest about a topic I never thought would interest me — some scientific quest, perhaps. What holds me is the enthusiasm of the writer for his field.”
