Đọc nhiều bài báo về việc "xem thường" tiếng Việt bằng cách hay chêm những từ tiếng Anh vào khi nói hoặc viết, tôi thấy trong hầu hết trường hợp, người nói thuộc dạng chủ động, nghĩa là nói (hoặc viết) bằng thứ tiếng Việt bị lai căng, biến dạng chỉ vì họ thích, để được xem là người sành điệu (khi chat, email, nhắn tin, trò chuyện trực tiếp…), chứng tỏ ta đây giỏi ngoại ngữ hoặc từng sinh sống, làm việc ở nước ngoài hay thường giao tiếp với người nước ngoài...

Amid calls for new admissions procedures to increase diversity in New York City’s elite public high schools, the number of black and Hispanic students winning seats remained virtually unchanged this year, according to statistics the Education Department released on Thursday.
Of the 5,103 students offered placement in eight specialized high schools, 5 percent were black and 7 percent were Hispanic, the same as last year, while 52 percent were Asian and 28 percent were white, the city said as more than 70,000 eighth-graders learned about their high school acceptances. At Stuyvesant High School, historically the hardest to get into, black students earned 10 of the 953 seats.

In the democratic present, perhaps the way to distinguish useful etiquette from frippery is to discern which rules help us be good rather than seem good. Serving others first is plainly charitable. Filling companions’ glasses, waiting to eat, giving another the last of the stew, chewing with a closed mouth — each is a basic acknowledgment of togetherness. Perhaps the consequential lesson in the matter of holding your fork, etc., is that customs differ at different tables in different lands, and that there is a certain intelligence in doing as is done. In other words, whatever unites merits keeping, and what divides can be folded and stored away with the linen too old and ornamental to use.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon said Sunday night that an investigation had validated the contents of a video showing multiple people chanting a racial slur against blacks and indicating that blacks would never be admitted to the fraternity. The chant also references lynching.
